Result Review

* Slowing Down:

Corporation Bank’s operating profit grew by 61.9% yoy, driven by a 43.2% rise in the NII and a 69% rise in other income. However, comparing on a like-to-like basis, without the MTM gains, the operating profit grew by 31% yoy. Despite healthy numbers, the impact of the business-cycle downturn has been evident in a moderate advances growth (3.2% sequentially), and a 75% yoy rise in delinquencies for 9M FY09. In view of the ongoing economic downturn, we retain our conservative estimates for margins, but downward-revise those for credit quality and business-growth. This tempers our fair-value estimate to Rs.182. While, we do believe that Corp Bank’s stock price reflects these concerns, we see limited upside in current environment. Therefore, we downgrade our rating to Hold.

* Advances growth to remain moderate:

We expect CorpBank’s advances growth to average ~18% and ~16% for FY09 and FY10 respectively. This downward revision in our growth estimates is based on funding and delinquency concerns. Funding concerns stem from a below average growth in deposits (2.7% qoq) and delinquency concerns emerge from the advances-mix. The Bank’s advances-mix is dominated by large industries (30.6%), retail (20%), SMEs (10.4%) and agriculture (9.2%), which are likely to face near-term headwinds. Therefore, the Bank’s credit off-take is likely to remain moderate.

SpiceJet is one of the recent entrants of the domestic Aviation Sector of India. SpiceJet flights started providing low cost carrier services from the year 2005. SpiceJet Airline is conceptualized and backed by Siddhant Sharma and the Kasangra Family. SpiceJet was initially known as Royal Airways which in turn was known as ModiLuft before that. SpiceJet flights are competitively priced with the aim of targeting the passengers of AC class passenger of Indian Railways. SpiceJet stormed into the aviation sector with its 99Rupees deals for a total of 9000 seats. Soon after that Spicejet flight seats were priced at Rs.999. These launched the low cost carrier market into a very low cost pricing frenzy.

Spicejet has used many innovative techniques to cut costs so that they can ofer the reduction to the passengers. SpiceJet flights don't allow any passenger to carry more than 20kgs of baggage. The Spicejet flight planes are decorated with red tails having their trademark centrifugal dotes which increase in size as they go away from the center. The SpiceJet aircrafts also have " spicejet " written on the aircrafts in the color red. The current fleet of Spicejet Airlines includes 11 Boeing 737 800s and it is awaiting 15 more. Spicejet airlines is also expecting the delivery of 5 more Boeing 737 900ERs. The delivery of these aircrafts is believed to increase the frequency of the flights of Spicejet .

Spicejet Airways currently caters to around 15 destinations all across India . In the coming time SpiceJet is expected to increase its market share further and may expand into other sectors too.

At the moment, Chicago Midway is seeing delays up to 90 minutes, O'Hare is almost at 75 minutes, and most other East Coast airports are all at 60 minutes or more.

As the delays increase, the systems outage will have a severe knock on effect for the entire country, and things are bound to get worse.

This is not the first time the FAA has had an outage in its NADIN system, last year the system grounded flights across the country for close to 6 hours, and the FAA has not been able to trace the cause of the problem. The NADIN computers were designed back in the early 80's, and are slated for replacement later this year. Of course, none of that will be of any help if you are sitting in a departure lounge reading this.

As with all delays, I suggest heading to the airport on time as well as contacting your airline. Chances are that your plane might still leave the gate on time, but you may end up being held in a holding pattern on the tarmac for several hours while controllers manually process flights. Be sure to pack something to read!

Lita was born in Ft. Lauderdale, FL and currently resides in Sandford, NC. She is best known for her current work with the WWF (since 2000), ECW, MCW, EMLL, NWA and other indys.

She has given women around the world a role model to look up to. In the short time she has been with the WWF, she has won the respect and gained the attention from her fans and peers. Amy Christine Dumas was born on April 14, 1975 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida While in high school, she took up swimming and practiced judo competitively, she also joined a band called 3 Card Trick, she played the bass guitar. She was a roadie for a band a year before she got intrested in professional wrestling. She stayed in Atlanta for a year to attend college. She then moved Washington D.C., then on to Richmond, VA., where she resided for three years. Her friends watched wrestling and Amy almost at once dismissed the sport as being "stupid". She caught eye of the Luchadores from Mexico on the television one night and was immediately intregued by their wrestling acrobatics. Amy began saving up her money to head down to Mexico in 1998.

Amy flew down to Mexico by herself. She didn't know anything about wrestling schools or the business. She got to Mexico, booked a hotel, bought a newspaper and found out where the lucha libre was located. Amy got by on a limited amount of money to her name. She used her high school level Spanish to get her through conversations with people down in Mexico. That didn't stop her from making a name for herself while she was down there. She kept showing up at the arenas every night. She was there for six weeks when they finally allowed her to do guest spots on their shows. They also allowed Amy to do a managerial spot, but she really wanted to get into the ring. Her money was close to running out, but since she had stuck it out and proved she was dedicated, they told her they would train her if she came back. She went back to her home in the states and saved her money again before she once again headed back to Mexico.

Lita spent three weeks in Mexico, where she learned to take bumps and perform manouvers in the ring. Once more, she ran out of money and headed back to the states with more knowledge in the sport. She went to Chicago and trained at Steel Domain for a week. She was running lower and lower on funds, but she was so hooked on wrestling by this time that money was a second thought in her mind. She gained more training in the sport, after that was when Amy started working the indy scene. While working with Mid-Atlantic NWA, she met the Hardy Boyz. She began talking with them, and they offered her to come down and train with them. While working indies in North Carolina, she would go to the Hardy's on Sundays to train. Amy was approached by Paul Heyman and she was offered a deal with ECW in early 1999. Heyman made it clear that he wanted Amy to perform as a valet only. July 18, 1999, Amy, then known as Angelica, got her first pay-per-view exposure at ECW's Heat Wave. She aligned forces with Danny Doring that night. Amy got involved with Jazz, another ECW female performer, but she was not satisfied with her involvment in ECW. ECW star Rob Van Dam introduced Amy to Dory Funk and his wife. They started up a conversation with Amy. Funk saw something he admired in Amy and offered her an invitation to go to his training camp.

At the camp, Amy trained with 23 guys. Dory Funk treated her no different than the other guys, at Amy's request. Amy quickly gained respect from the other guys at the camp and graduated from The Funking Conservatory in August 1999. September 19, 1999, Amy made her final ECW Pay-Per-View appearance. She briefly brawled with Jazz at Anarchy Rulz. Dory Funk and his wife began compiling old videos they had taken of Amy and sent it to WWF Talent Relations. The WWF thought Dumas had talent and dedication and later offered her a contract without even watching her in a try out match. Amy worked her first dark match with Essa Rios (then known as Papi Chulo), landing a moonsault after Essa did one on his opponent. From then on Amy gained the respect of her peers. Lita made her first WWF Pay-Per-View appearance with Essa Rios on April 30, 2000.

Dean Malenko has had his eyes on Lita for the past few months. Asking her out on dates, only to get turned down flat. Malenko then challenged Lita to a Light Heavyweight Title match with a small stipulation added. If Dean won, Lita would have to go out on a date with him. At the end of the match, Malenko put the clover leaf on Lita, getting the win and snagging himself a date with the red haired beauty. They went out to dinner and Dean thought he was going to get more than just dessert. Lita went to a hotel room with him, where he was surprised by the Hardy Boyz who beat him up and left him in the room. Dean is still pursuing Lita, while she insists that he is disgusting.

Amy has the kind of dedication that is strong. Her personality is magnetic, in or out of the ring. One must admit that she has gone beyond what other women have done for the world of wrestling. She is making a break through for many up and coming female stars. Lita has already taken the WWF by storm, and one must feel that the weather isn't clearing up anytime soon.

NHA TRANG, Vietnam (AP) — The 2008 Miss Universe contest has begun,
with 80 of the world's most beautiful women competing to win one of the pageant world's most coveted crowns.

The field was reduced to 15 semi-finalists at the beginning of the show, including Venezuela, Kosovo, Mexico, Vietnam, South Africa, Australia, Japan, the Dominican Republic, Italy, Colombia, Russia, Hungary, the Czech Republic, the United States and Spain.

The NBC show is being hosted by TV host Jerry Springer and Spice Girl Melanie Brown and broadcast live to hundreds of millions of viewers in 170 countries.

The 80 contestants gathered in the seaside city of Nha Trang, Vietnam, vying to succeed reigning Miss Universe Riyo Mori of Japan.

They are competing in front of a panel of judges that includes international fashion experts and Donald Trump Jr., whose father, the real estate magnate and TV star, co-owns the pageant with NBC.

This year's contestants span a wide range of experiences and aspirations.

Miss Albania was a professional basketball player. Miss Argentina says she has paranormal experiences. Miss Antigua & Barbuda is fascinated by snakes.

Miss Venezuela has been kidnapped and Miss Angola was in a plane crash while trying to escape a conflict during her country's civil war.

The shortest contestant in this year's show is Miss El Salvador, a petite 5-foot-3. The tallest are Miss Jamaica, Miss Mexico and Miss Peru, who measure 6 feet.

All the contestants will be hoping to avoid the calamity that befell Miss USA during last year's contest, when she fell down during the evening gown segment and became an unintended star on YouTube, where the video was played over and over again.

The "Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana" (KVPY) is a programme started during 1999 by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India to encourage students of Basic Sciences, Engineering and Medicine to take up research careers in these areas. The aim of the programme is to identify and encourage talented students with aptitude for research.

This programme strives to assist the students to realise their potential and to ensure that the best scientific talent is developed for research and growth of in the country. Generous scholarship and contingency grant is provided (up to the Pre-Ph.D. level) to the selected students.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Vasundhara Das (Kannada:ವಸುಂಧರಾ ದಾಸ್)(born 1977) is an Indian actress and singer. She began acting with the Kamal Hasan film Hey Ram (1999) and her playback singing career began when she worked with A. R. Rahman for the Tamil-language film Mudhalvan. She has also sung for Maestro Ilaiyaraaja in the unreleased Tamil movie 'Dhanush' acted and directed by newcomer A M Gurumani. Vasundhara Das has also recorded her own album of non-film songs, and sung in French, English, Kannada , Tamil and Hindi.

She has founded a musical band named Arya with Roberto Narain. The band comprises musicians from various backgrounds in music, ranging from Hindustani and Carnatic classical music to jazz, Latin, rock and pop. Arya’s music can be broadly classified as World Music. Arya’s first performance was at the prestigious festival La Mar de Musicas, in Spain in 2003. The band performed a tour in the United States of America in September 2004. Roberto Narain plays the drums and she provides the western and the Indian vocals.

An interview with Vasundhara Das

After your bang start, suddenly your fans feel you are lying very low. Are you taking a break?
I've just done what my heart told me to do! I have started a recording studio in Bangalore. I'm with the World Music Band, touring England and America extensively. I'm shooting films of my choice and am very busy with playback singing. Most of my songs have been chartbusters. And that's doing a lot, not lying low! If what I do doesn't make news, it doesn't mean I'm doing nothing!

Your hands are indeed full! Many singers are trying their luck at acting. You feel singers with a good face become good actors?
I can only speak for myself. I never ever wanted to act. My world was only music. Acting was just a sheer coincidence, a good experiment.

In Hey Ram and Monsoon Wedding, your roles were very spicy and glam.
Come on! I don't really understand why people say they were glam wham roles! One was a period film! Both of them were very good roles and the films required some scenes, which blended well with the story line and it wasn't meant to be hot!

Do you believe in the ideas of Indian hypocrisy projected in the Monsoon Wedding?
I do believe in what was shot. The problem in Indian films is we don't have the courage to talk about issues that exist, we tend to shy away. That's the reality, so why sugar coat it? Say it the way it is meant to be said.

From the Shakalaka Baby days, how have you seen yourself grow?
For me it has been a phenomenal growth. Whether it has been recorded in public or not, it has been a very personal experience. For a girl who wanted to be a pop singer, to have entered into the foray of acting, co-composing an album, forming a band etc., have been milestones.

So you are confident about your acting skills?
I have rediscovered myself with my acting. Every time I don a new role, I have to act and to act I have to be. To be, I have to know and that is where I start rediscovering a new me. So…

You have been doing a spate of Hindi films?
There are three of them on the floor. I am doing 'Film Star', which is about the relationship between an actress and a convict. I play the convict who is accused of having murdered her husband. Pathar Ke Zubaan recounts the Mathura rape case, where the rich people and the Police and a woman SI stand rape a quarry worker up for her.

Looks like you are very choosy about roles?
The time I spend away from my singing is very precious to me. I have to make good use of it. In fact I am doing a film called Kudiyon Ke Zamana, which is about 4 rich women (Rekha, Mahima Choudary, Kim and me) who don't know what to do with the time on their hands! The roles I do should convince me that I am spending my time usefully!

How come you didn't venture into Kannada films before Lankesh Patrike happened?
The funniest part is I have lived all my life in Bangalore and can speak very good Kannada. But seeing my face many people feel I can't speak Kannada well and that was one reason no one approached me! After I sang a couple of songs for the movie Neela, people were convinced that I know the language well. Anyway, if I think the role is good, I will do any film. Language is no barrier at all and my band Arya plays music in all languages.

So much was said about all those extra kilos you put on, against the usual hourglass figure that actresses are supposed to maintain.
That was a purely personal decision! I felt like eating well and I did it. After some time I felt I want to stop stuffing myself and I did just that! I live for myself and if people felt I didn't suit the role of an actress, well I have never pointed a gun at anybody and asked them to see my films!

But you look very slim and beautiful now!
Thanks! That was again my conscious decision!

There is so much said about the casting couch, especially with so many new kids on the block?
Well. May be that depends on you. If you keep your head on your shoulders and nowhere to draw the line, then you have no chance of complaining. But if you are willing to go that extra bit, whom are you blaming?

Yours is a husky voice and you have the glamorous look too. Why haven't you done any item numbers?
Whether I will accept an offer to do it depends on my frame of mind!

You have become a youth icon. What do you have to say to hundreds of talented youth out there who are struggling to make it?
You have to stand out on your own. Seriously, the entertainment industry is a reality check. No one comes out searching for you. It's a cutthroat competition and you have to go out and prove yourself. Remember you are always alone!

How has life been after you have become the tourism ambassador of Karnataka?
Lots of fun! I had been visiting the length and breadth of Karnataka since I was a child, but now I am doing it with a different perspective. There is so much of tourism potential, but unfortunately, there is dearth of funds unlike in Kerala, which has carved a niche for itself in the tourism world.

Having achieved so much, do you plan to settle down?
Marriage? Not on the cards right now! I am having too much fun and would like to continue it for sometime. No, I have no set ideas about the man in my life. May be the one trait I'll look for is a firm mind!

If you weren't singing what would you be doing?
Hitch - hiking or back - packing!

Singer and actress Vasundhara Das wants to enlighten fans of film songs about other forms of music too. And she loves being part of the World Music band that tries to experiment with diverse rhythms and tunes.

"The people of this country are great music lovers. But unfortunately majority of them are only listening to film music and getting lost in enjoying filmy songs. I want to change this attitude and try to change the enormous focus given to film music," said Vasundhara.

On being asked about her association with the World Music band, she said, "I wanted to be a part of a larger group that is trying to experiment in music to set new trends. The relevance of realistic music has to be well understood by music fans in the country," she said.

Vasundhara, who started her career as an actress in Kamal Haasan's Hey Ram, says she drew inspiration from singer John Lennon of the Beatles group because despite his popularity he continued to experiment and be creative.

"You see his variety in songs like Imagine and Double Fantasy albums. He has done tremendous work in music and moved away from a stereotyped structure," said Vasundhara, who's sung popular Hindi numbers like Shakalaka Baby and Salaam Namastey.

Born and brought up in Bangalore, Vasundhara has now moved to Mumbai to experiment with different facets of music.

"We are moving out and on a world tour. World Music band is a non-commercial organisation that is experimenting in world music. Many well-known musicians and songwriters are in this band. Those who want to experiment and infuse new thoughts in music can join this gang," she said.

Before entering the music industry, Vasundhara featured in the Tamil film Citizen with Ajith, the Malayalam movie Ravana Prabhu with Mohanlal and the Kannada flick ILankesh Patrike with Darshan.

She then worked in Hindi films like Monsoon Wedding, Film Star, Pathar Bezuban and Kudiyon Ka Zamana. But she says she has always been more enthusiastic about singing songs than acting.

Vasundhara has sung for five Kannada films so far, including two for recent movie Sacha.

"I had sung the two songs in Sacha essentially for my mentor to show my love and gratitude for him. Parameshwara Hegde is the music director of this film. I learnt Hindustani music from him. I had to struggle and work hard like any other student to learn music under his guidance. He is strict, but he ensures that the students become effective singers."

Abounding with references to his childhood, Chagall's work has also been criticized for slighting some of the turmoil which he experienced. Sublime Spaniard stretches the imagination

So now we know. For 65 matches spanning six years we have wondered who could possibly be the man to stop Roger Federer on grass, and at Wimbledon. Did such a player exist, or was Federer's elegant supremacy such that the mere idea was the stuff of ridiculous imagination?

On Centre Court on Sunday, imagination took flight. The sporting world trembled on its axis, and mother nature sent out thunderclaps and lightning around the All England Club to herald the extraordinary moment. So remember the date, July 6 2008, the time, 9.15pm, and then shout the name out loud: Rafael Nadal.

Little wonder the Spanish national motto is Plus Ultra – literally, further beyond. If the translation is clumsily ungrammatical, then the legend itself spells out in neon what Nadal achieved. Four weeks to the day since he permitted the Swiss a confidence-mincing total of four games in his clay court kingdom of Roland Garros, Nadal robbed Federer of his most treasured possession, the title that defined him: his Wimbledon crown.

The 22-year-old Majorcan already has four successive French Open victories, but this is his most glittering prize. Three weeks ago at Queen’s he became the first Spaniard to take a grass court title in 36 years. But it is 42 years since a player from his nation conquered the lawns of SW19.

The moment when at last he touched victory hit him like a bullet in the chest. It left him flattened on the turf, eyes squeezed shut, face crumpled. Tears came, and he rolled over into a near-foetal position, before staggering to his feet to acknowledge Federer at the net. But the need to be with those he loves the most was paramount for Nadal, and he clambered the stands to find their embrace, before taking a startling walk over an adjoining roof to receive a handshake from the Spanish crown prince in the royal box.

Little wonder he felt such need for release. All through the match he had contained his confidence, with none of the lavish celebration so habitual to his game. Dozens of times in any given match he can be seen extravagantly rejoicing in some extraordinary shot by swerving away with his left fist clenched, arm pumping, shouting: “Vamos!” But today there was no investment of energy in such wastefulness until late in the final set. Face set in concentration, he permitted himself just an occasional fist-clench of affirmation, until almost the moment he smote the legend.

Who could blame him? Every second of this match was cloaked in spine-tingling tension, and that was just for those who watched. What must it have been like inside Nadal’s skin, to wake on Sunday morning in the knowledge that this was the most important day of his professional life?

Twelve months ago here, he became the only person to have taken Federer to five sets since his grass court streak began in the ancient days of 2003. This year so many voices publicly proclaimed him champion before a ball was struck. But he was facing a man who was bidding to make history, by becoming the first player in 122 years to win the men's singles title at Wimbledon six times in succession. Federer was decreed to be at his most vulnerable, yet no one else here had been able unburden Federer of so much as a set in the whole fortnight. The only outcome no one could envisage was an anti-climax.

On a cool and blustery afternoon, the Centre Court crowd were all but gibbering with anticipation. Arriving on court Nadal looked tense and purposeful; Federer strolled in behind him with a graceful wave to acknowledge the ovation. When umpire Pascal Maria called time, Federer strode at once to the baseline, but Nadal lingered for 10 seconds in his chair, pondering his destiny.

He grasped the first point of the match with a powerful forehand, and it prompted not only long applause but a great murmuring ripple through the crowd, as if some sensational piece of news was being passed among them. Even the sun peered out from the dark skies above, unable to resist the lure of the action.

Moments later the ripple was a roar of astonishment. The match was three games old, but already the Spaniard had a break, and Federer never got it back. It felt as if the mental burden of that Roland Garros evisceration was casting a shadow.

The shadow grew longer when Nadal came back from 1-4 down to take the second 6-4. Federer, the grass court king, was two sets down. If that seemed unreal, it was positively eerie when at 3-3 in the third, Nadal galloped to 0-40.

They felt very much like match points – but all went by. On such chances great matches might hinge. An 80-minute break for rain saw Federer renewed, as if he had remembered that all he had to fear was fear itself. From being dangerously near defeat, he took the set on the tie-break.

The fourth set tie-break was a thing of heart-stopping beauty – heart-stopping in its tension, beautiful in its quality. Twice Nadal held Championship point, and twice heaven passed him by on the other side. Federer took it to a fifth, and here at last Nadal’s destiny lay waiting.

There is no sound like the roar of the Centre Court crowd as it tumbles on to the turf. The great wave of it crashed over Nadal. Was there ever such a final as this? The king is dead; long live the king.

Tata Nano: the "Big" wonder

It's a car that has made history. On January 10, while a select few thousand watched the unveiling of the Nano - the People's Car, a million more around the world saw it on the internet or read about it in newspapers the next day; and it continues to make headlines.

A few weeks after the unveiling, however, its business as usual at the Engineering Research Centre (ERC) at the Tata Motors plant in Pune. Here is where it all began and here is where the Nano team, after the euphoric unveiling, is now quietly gearing up for the next phase: putting the Nano on the road.

"The execution of the project is the real challenge", says the self-effacing Girish Wagh, who heads the 500-strong Nano team. "While we are happy and proud at the reception received by the Nano, we also know that we have a long road ahead." This statement sums up the Nano team philosophy.

It was an incredibly tough journey - filled with challenges, questions, detours and self-doubts. But the Nano team developed and delivered a car that exceeded the world's expectations beyond their dreams.

The team, as one, acknowledges the tremendous support and guidance from Mr Ratan Tata, Mr Ravi Kant, Mr Prakash Telang and the senior management. Mr Tata, they say, not only brought a sense of cohesiveness, but also provided a number of vital inputs - information, guidance, encouragement and the motivation to keep looking at innovation.

As we spoke to some of the members of the Nano team, about their 4-year long journey, we sensed the excitement and the pleasure of a job well done; and the never-say-die spirit of the enthusiastic young team as they gear up to face the challenge of launching the car.

The “MonsterQuest” crew researched reports of escaped or released pet pythons in the Florida Everglades. Supposedly they’ve grown into “super snakes” that could eat an entire alligater. Then they headed to Venezuela to look for giant anacondas.

PROLIX is a 48 months research and development integrated project co-funded by the European Commission under the Sixth Framework Programme, Priority 2 “Information Society Technologies” started on 1st December 2005.
The objective of PROLIX is to align learning with business processes in order to enable organisations to faster improve the competencies of their employees according to continuous changes of business requirements.
To reach this goal, PROLIX develops an open, integrated reference architecture for process-oriented learning and information exchange.

PROLIX supports a complete learning process life cycle

1. the analysis of complex business situations;

2. the identification of individual and organisational learning goals;

3. the analysis of competencies and their matching with individual skills;

4. the definition of appropriate learning strategies and the simulation of competency-oriented processes;

5. the execution of improved learning processes;

6. the monitoring of learners’ performance according to the goals defined.

Vision
PROLIX vision is to make people and organisations more competitive by reducing the time to fill competency gaps and to build proficiency according to the business needs and daily work processes. The delay between identification of a learning need and the actual learning should not be large. Furthermore, the learning material must be targeted to the learner’s individual learning style and behaviour. In some cases, learning must also be ‘ad hoc’ available in order to improve the performance of the employee at his workplace significantly. Organisations need to understand that providing the necessary means to learning at the workplace is mandatory for employees and organisation alike to react quickly, cost - effective and successfully in nowadays ever-changing markets. PROLIX will therefore couple business processes with learning processes in corporate environments. The vision of PROLIX is a system that allows for business process driven learning at the workplace, taking into account the single learner and their needs as well as the corporate requirements. In addition, the learner will be able to initialize a learning task himself enabling self-guided learning in corporate environments.

Overall and seen from an organizational point of view, PROLIX will significantly contribute to the change management within companies that needs to develop into a holistic learning organization enabling the integration of learning into the daily working tasks. Corporate culture requires the provision of strategies, methods and concepts to satisfy heterogeneous learning needs. Mechanisms and concepts for the organizational introduction of TEL in corporations have to be co-ordinated with its philosophy and company vision.

Objectives
PROLIX will research, analyze and develop a process-oriented learning approach and a flexible and adaptive service-oriented architecture system which is capable of aligning training and knowledge product ion of people faced with so-called “complex situations” such as work and business process changes, or other complex multivariable learning environments, which cannot be solved with traditional eLearning or knowledge management approaches. Often, such situations also require a mix of individual and organisational learning, and of learning and knowledge acquisition/production.

PROLIX objectives are:

1. PROLIX aims to enable an organisation to close the learner’s life cycle
2. PROLIX aims to make it easier to define Learning Goals based on business needs and business processes
3. PROLIX aims to deliver a methodology for matching of needed competencies with “as-hoc” profiles
4. PROLIX aims to provide competence oriented process decision support through simulation
5. PROLIX aims to integrate Learning Technology Solutions with Business Information Systems
6. PROLIX aims to monitor Learner ’s Performance according to Business Needs
7. PROLIX aims to provide an Open Business Enterprise Learning and Information Systems exchange Reference Architecture (OBELIX)

Test bed
In order to demonstrate its concept, PROLIX sets up three test beds in different fields of application. Sun Direct (Sun DTH) Details

Sun Direct offers DTH for Rs75 a month to counter new rivals.

Sharply upping the ante as it seeks to ward off competition from a Tamil Nadu state government-backed rival, Sun Direct TV Pvt. Ltd is launching a direct-to-home (DTH) service dubbed Sun Direct with a low monthly subscription of Rs75, excluding taxes.

Sun Direct, to be launched by the end of the month, will offer 75 TV channels and 15 radio channels. Both the dish and set-top box would be free, but the company will collect one-time installation charges of Rs999.

“Tamil Nadu is a test market for us to offer DTH service,” said a top official in-charge of Sun Direct, who requested anonymity. “The offer (Rs75 for 75 channels) is only in Tamil Nadu. We want to see how this package works.”

Sun Direct is a 80:20 joint venture between Sun TV’s core promoters Kalanidhi Maran, his wife Kaveri Maran and Malaysia-based Astro Group. A Sun TV spokesperson declined to comment. The launch of Sun Direct comes at a time when the state government has decided to start its own cable TV distribution company, Arasu Cable TV Corp. Ltd. This was seen as a move to break the near-monopoly hold of the Marans in the cable distribution network through their Sumangali Cable Television.

Also, a new Tamil satellite channel sporting the nickname name of Tamil Nadu chief minister M. Karunanidhi, called Kalignar TV, was launched on 15 September and is seen by many as a credible challenger to Sun Network’s domination of Tamil satellite TV market. Once close to the chief minister and the ruling DMK, the Marans have fallen out of favour in recent months.

Cable operators in the state had welcomed the formation of Arasu and say they are strongly opposed to the pricing strategy of Sun Direct. At Rs75 per subscriber, Sun Direct is on par with the lowest subscription rate (Rs78 excluding tax) offered by cable TV operators in the state.

These operators say they are planning to stop transmission of the Sun TV package on 23 September for a day and also stop paying Sun Network Rs35 for its pay channels. They also plan to hold protest meetings on Monday in all district headquarters. They are demanding the state government to impose a luxury tax of Rs75 per DTH subscriber.

Sun Direct’s low subscription rate is garnering protests from cable TV operators, who fear it would wean their customers away. P. Shakilan, president of Thamizhaga Cable TV Operators General Welfare Association, which claimed to have 40,000 members and 8.5 million subscribers, said his association will file a police compliant against Sun Direct for “cheating and misleading” the public. “They claim to give dish and receiver free, but are charging Rs999 for installation,” he said. “Why should it cost so much to install a dish?”
