Her father Nishit, is Gujarati, and her mother is half British and half Maharashtrian - an Anglo-Indian Muslim named Faridah. She has a younger sister named Natasha. Takia grew up speaking English and had to learn Hindi after joining films.
At age 15 Takia appeared in Complan campaign alongside Shahid Kapoor and also in a , Falguni Pathak's music video Meri Chunar Udd Udd Jaye. At sixteen she appeared in the video, Shake It Daddy which got her noticed by the movie industry and a few film offers followed.
